What browsers and operating systems are supported?

Convo Now Web currently uses WebRTC technology for video and audio communication, our web application is currently supported in:

  • Google Chrome (latest release version)
  • Firefox (latest release version)
  • Microsoft Edge (Full support for a Chromium-based, beta for non-Chromium versions)
  • Safari 15 on macOS and iOS or later versions

We highly recommend using the Google Chrome browser for optimal quality and user experience. With those enabled browsers supported on end-user computers, your users may open and log in to Convo Now Web before making calls to a live interpreter.

Your end-users may use mobile or tablet devices that support iOS 13.0, iPad 13.0 or Android 8.0 or higher. A built-in front camera is required.

What setup is needed?

Convo solutions are designed to be fast and easy to use, without complicated setup.

  • Convo Now Web: Simply log in through our website on a browser and connect directly with a live interpreter—no downloads or extra steps required. https://uk.convo.io/UserWebApp

  • Convo Now Mobile Apps: Our apps can be quickly downloaded and provide an intuitive user experience, making communication smooth and effortless.
  • Convo Access: Our browser-based app for mobile devices initiated by simply scanning a QR code. No download or login required.

  • Smart Performance: Bandwidth speeds are dynamically adjusted throughout each live call, ensuring the best possible video and audio quality.

What are Convo Now's security features?

Convo is entirely based on proven, open standards, written by industry experts, and used for years in commercial products. The core security protocols are HTTPS/TLSv1.2 to encrypt bidirectional web sessions between customer applications and Convo, SRTP for media traffic encryption, and DTLS-SRTP for key negotiation, which the IETF defines. Convo cryptographically signs its tokens using the RS512 algorithm, transmitted over the Authentication header using the Bearer schema. This signature can be used to validate the authenticity of the request. OAuth 2.0 standard is used for social login integration. Convo WebRTC-compatible endpoints use the AES cipher with 128-bit keys to encrypt audio and video and HMAC-SHA1  to verify data integrity.

What are the Network Requirements for Convo Now Clients?

Convo services require access to specific ports. Those port(s) only accept inbound traffic after an outbound request is sent. The connection is bidirectional but is always initiated from the corporate network/client, so an external entity can't send malicious traffic in the opposite direction.

The following requirements must be met:

  • 443/TCP (HTTPS) and UDP ports 1025–65535 must be available.
This setup allows multiple media channels and supports concurrent client connections.
Important: UDP ports are used for media traffic and should only accept inbound responses after an outbound request has been initiated.

How should I configure our firewall to support Convo Now Clients?

All traffic must be able to reach convo.io and convorelay.com for Convo services to function properly. Please ensure that firewalls, proxies, or security appliances are configured to allow traffic to and from these domains.

Your firewall should allow outgoing UDP to the public internet from the browsers or mobile devices using Convo Now Clients and allow return traffic in response.

If your network policy requires restricting network access to specific blocks of IP addresses, please contact our sales team for details.

Do Convo Now Clients work behind Proxy?

Most proxies are supported in browsers and mobile apps today. If the only way to access the  Internet from your network is through a proxy, then it must be a transparent proxy or configured in the browser for HTTPS connections. WebRTC does not work with proxies requiring authentication. Along with these requirements, clients may have the following rules:

Platform / Browser

Proxy Support Details

Google Chrome

Supported using the computer’s proxy settings

Mozilla Firefox

Does not support proxies that inspect packets to validate TLS connections, because Firefox does not support TURN over TLS.

Microsoft Edge (Latest)

Supported without NTLM; no plugin installation required.

Apple iOS

Supported.  Supports .pac files for Wi-Fi, but with limitations

What are the bandwidth requirements for Convo Now Clients?

Video quality dynamically adjusts based on a user's network connectivity strength. The client sends feedback packets that advise, "My network quality is at 'x' level. Please adjust your video bit rate to accommodate my current bandwidth." The faster and more stable a client’s broadband connection is, the better the video quality it will request.

  • Minimum: 384 kbps up/down
    • Sufficient for basic video communication.

  • Recommended: 768 kbps up/down
    • Provides good, stable video and audio quality.

  • Optimal: 2 Mbps up/down
    • Ensures the best HD-quality video experience.

Average Data Usage: Convo typically consumes between 150 MB and 500 MB per hour in each direction (upload and download).

What are the hardware requirements for Convo Now Clients?

Convo Now Web clients should use a USB Camera that supports at least 30 Frames Per Second (FPS) running at 320 x 240 resolution. A proper lighting setup is essential for better video quality. We highly recommend a USB Camera with autofocus and auto lighting adjustments.

The following USB Cameras are suitable for both Windows and Mac users:

  • Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 or similar (Windows, Mac)
  • Logitech BCC950 ConferenceCam or similar (Windows) (Good for small conference room)

The following WebCams are also supported:

  • Apple FaceTime HD (Mac)
  • Logitech B525 HD Webcam (Windows, Mac)

We also recommend Headsets with built-in microphones for improved sound quality and privacy or USB echo-cancelling speakers for meeting room environments.
